With the deepening of economic globalization,annual reports of multinational enterprises now have become an important channel for companies,consumers,and investors to announce or obtain information about the operation and development of enterprises.The English-Chinese translation of such business texts is highly challenging because it contains many financial terms,proper nouns,and long sentences with complex structures,as well as its special nature concerning the image of corporate performance and investors’ financial choices.This report is a project report on the English-Chinese translation of Nestle Annual Review 2020.The author carried out the translation as required by the commission and selected 10,000 words for analysis,aiming to discuss the difficulties encountered in the translation of such texts and the translation techniques adopted to ensure the accuracy and appropriateness of the translation in the light of Newmark’s text type theory.The report is divided into four parts.Chapter One gives a detailed description of the translation task and explains its background and significance.The second chapter details the preparation process for this task,including the clarification of the theoretical framework of this report,the introduction and application of text typology theory,the analysis of the language features of annual report texts,and the use of tools such as parallel texts.Chapter Three,according to text typology theory,selects specific examples to illustrate the application of literal translation,free translation,omission,conversion,zero translation,alliteration,and four-character phrases.The last chapter summarizes the translation practice report,points out its limitations,and puts forward suggestions for improvement,in the hope of bringing some reference and inspiration to the translation of business English texts and annual reports.
