A Translation Practice Report Of The Ecological Annual Report Under The Guidance Of Text Typology Theory

Environmental protection has always been a great concern to the world.In recent years,with the rapid development of the global economy,the problem of environmental pollution has become more and more serious.While human beings explore and utilize environmental resources,they have caused a series of environmental problems.China has been calling on the importance of environmental protection to the world.China itself also attaches great importance to the field of environmental protection.An annual report is a summary form that contains the projects and results achieved by the company or organization as well as problem analysis and experience summaries throughout the year.As a “bridge” between information communications,translation can enable China to effectively contact and understand the current situation abroad.China can refer to foreign environmental protection projects and methods when formulating environmental policies and programs.Therefore,it is very meaningful to translate the annual reports of foreign environmental protection organizations and explore their translation methods.This translation material IUCN European Region Annual Report 2018 is written in English.The author did the English-Chinese translation task of the annual report.The author wrote this practical report based on this material and analyzes specific translation problems.According to the language functions,Peter Newmark’s text typology theory roughly divides texts into three different types.They are the expressive text,the informative text,and the vocative text.This report dedicates to conveying information about European environmental protection status,policies,and achievements to countries around the world.Therefore,the text mainly belongs to the informative text.The original text is an annual report of ecology,with many professional terms,long and complex sentences,and strong logic.The author will discuss the translation at the levels of vocabulary,sentence,and text.The author will use the communicative translation and semantic translation strategies based on Newmark’s text typology theory.In this report,the author analyzes the difficulties of this practice in detail and proposes corresponding solutions.At the lexical level,the author mainly applies literal translation and free translation.At the syntactical level,the author uses voice transformation,subject addition,division of long sentences,and adjustment of word order because of the differences between Chinese and English.At the textual level,the author applies cohesion and coherence translation methods.Through the above analysis,the author learned that choosing the text typology theory to guide the translation practice activities of ecological science and technology texts can improve the quality of the translation and enable the target language readers to understand the content expressed in the original text better.
