Abstract/Summary:
Emotional adaptation is an important index to measure adolescents’ school adaptation and mental health status.Family and friends are proximal Microsystems of adolescents’ emotional adjustment development.Family function and friendship support are important protective factors of adolescents’ emotional adjustment. The different modes of family function and friendship support on adolescents’ emotional adjustment may be related to specific adjustment problems, and there are differences between left-behind and non-left-behind adolescents. The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of family function and friendship support on adolescents’ emotional adjustment problems, including anxiety and loneliness and depression, and to compare the characteristics and differences of this model between left-behind and non-leftbehind adolescents. In order to provide a theoretical basis for the intervention of adolescents’ emotional adjustment problems, help improve adolescents’ emotional adjustment ability, especially the left-behind groups, and promote their mental health. In this study,2527 junior high school students in a place in Anhui were surveyed by questionnaire survey, and the results of statistical analysis are as follows.(1)Left-behind adolescents have worse family functioning and higher levels of depression than non-left-behind adolescents, but there are no significant differences in anxiety and loneliness and friendship support.(2)The better the family function or the more supportive the friends, the less loneliness and depression the left-behind and non-left-behind adolescents experienced. The better the family function or the higher friendship support, the lower the anxiety level of non-left-behind adolescents;Having more friends and partners can reduce the anxiety of left-behind adolescents, but family function has little influence on the anxiety of left-behind adolescents.(3)The effects of family function and friendship support on loneliness of left-behind adolescents were interactive: high friendship support could compensate for the negative effects of low family function, but could not enhance the positive effects of high family function on loneliness.High family function can partially compensate for the negative effects of low friendship support but cannot enhance the positive effects of high friend support(compensation mode).(4)The effects of family function and friendship support on depression of non-left-behind adolescents are interactive: high friend support can compensate the negative effects of low family function(compensation mode),and can also enhance the positive effects of high family function on depression(enhancement mode).High family function can partially compensate for the negative effects of low friendship support(compensation mode),and can also enhance the positive effects of high friendship support(enhancement mode).(5)Friendship support completely mediated the relationship between family functioning and anxiety, and partially mediated the relationship between family functioning and loneliness and depression.(6)There are four potential profiles of friendship support-family function in both leftbehind adolescents and non-left-behind adolescents.left-behind adolescents: lowest friendship support-lowest family function group(18%),low friendship support-high family function group(54%),high friendship support-highest family function group(25%)and highest friendship support-low family function group(3%).Non-left-behind adolescents: lowest friendship support-low family function group(17%),low friendship support-high family function group(55%),high friendship support-highest family function group(26%)and highest friendship support-lowest family function group(3%).In the left-behind adolescents, lowest friendship support-lowest family function group had the highest anxiety and loneliness and depression;highest friendship support-low family function group had the lowest anxiety;high friendship support-highest family function group had the lowest loneliness and depression. In the non-left-behind adolescents, lowest friendship support-low family function group had the highest anxiety and loneliness and depression;high friendship support-highest family function group had the lowest anxiety, loneliness and depression.Left-behind adolescents have worse family functioning and more depression.Family function and friend support have different influence patterns on adolescents’ emotional adjustment problems, and there are group differences. In the left behind adolescents and non-left-behind adolescents, the family function and friendship support level of adolescents have obvious classification characteristics, and there are different emotional adaptation characteristics in different potential profiles.
