Because of its dependence on a material vehicle, sculpture is traditionally considered a self-contained three-dimensional entity whose formal language and expression vary according to the aesthetic aspirations of different periods. Before the emergence of minimalism in the 1960 s,sculpture could be considered to have undergone an internal semantic change, while after its emergence, when the end of modernism was announced with "theatricality," sculpture began to change from an internal semantic to an external context. In its journey into contemporary art, contemporary sculpture has shared the resources of contemporary art and taken on a new appearance, constantly challenging the traditional concepts and meanings of sculpture and expanding to its external boundaries, which has left the relationship between contemporary sculpture and contemporary art in an ambiguous one. From the context of contemporary art,the classification of art categories seems to be no longer necessary today, but sculpture itself has its own development and disciplinary history, and the continuous renewal of art phenomena is a process of enriching its conceptual meaning for the history of sculpture. This paper tries to take the artistic phenomenon of contemporary sculpture, which emphasizes the process of work,as the starting point, and takes the expression of "process" in different periods as the main object of study, and analyzes and interprets it in the context of works with transitions. The author attempts to sort out a logical chain of "process" from concealment to manifestation, which is hidden behind the development of mainstream sculpture,in the hope of providing another perspective to discuss I hope to provide an alternative perspective on the development of sculpture in order to understand and grasp the artistic phenomenon of contemporary sculpture that emphasizes process, and to clarify the relationship between contemporary sculpture and contemporary art. After examining and analyzing the transitional artistic practice of sculpture,I believe that this shift from "physical" to "process" has led to a "non-visual" change in sculpture, which is In other words, sculpture is no longer only visual and result-oriented,but also perceptible and generative,a more multi-dimensional and three-dimensional total presentation. From the viewer’s point of view, the viewer is no longer told the meaning of a work, but is able to interpret the meaning of the work on his or her own,and can even become an important part of the work’s complete meaning through his or her participation. For art historical research, the analysis and study of sculptural art is also no longer written based on a set of fixed theories;the constantly renewed constitutive factors in the sculptural process require scholars to incorporate more theories from other fields to explore, even when theory and practice cannot be synchronized, leading researchers to write in an innovative way.
