| This report is written based on a mock consecutive interpreting practice of the lecture Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, which lasts for 65 minutes. In this lecture, the speaker introduced a book on business management and shared his own experience related to the book’s essence, which is of great significance for the audience to understand how to be successful and happy. In the process of the mock interpreting practice, information redundancy is a major challenge for the interpreter.Interpretive Theory proposes that meaning is extracted from the source language and reorganized before expression.Guided by Interpretive Theory, this report focuses on summarizing coping strategies for information redundancy in Chinese-English interpreting by case analysis. The redundancy in the mock interpreting practice can be divided into two categories:semantic redundancy and contextual redundancy. In dealing with semantic redundancy, the interpreter omits category words, omits filler words, compresses synonymous repetition, and omits repetition of words, thus making the target language concise. To deal with contextual redundancy, the interpreter uses generalization to deliver information efficiently. These strategies help the interpreter manage to finish the mock interpreting practice smoothly. Finally, the interpreter summarizes the major findings and limitations, with the hope that the coping strategies proposed in this report can provide some references for interpreters to deal with redundant information in Chinese-English consecutive interpreting in the future. |
