This report is based on the practice of consecutive interpreting of guide of three exhibition halls in Shandong Museum,and the audience is a foreign student from the Republic of Congo.This interpreting practice is related to Shandong archaeology.Based on Verschueren’s adaptation theory,this report focuses on the application of adaptation theory in interpreting practice,and summarizes the interpreting strategies adopted by the interpreter from four angles of investigation of adaptation theory.This report consists of five chapters.The first chapter is the task description,including the background of the task and the language features of the museum guide and docent.The second chapter is the process description,including preparation,interpreting and evaluation.The third chapter is the theoretical framework,which introduces the origin,development and research status of adaptation theory,three properties of language and four angles of investigation,and the application of adaptation theory in interpreting practice.Chapter Four is case analysis.This chapter analyzes the interpreting strategies adopted by the interpreter from four angles of investigation.The interpreter adopted the strategies of transliteration and free translation according to the contextual correlates,and adopted the strategy of amplification and omission according to the structural objects.Comprehension,short-term memory and note-taking in interpreting reflects the dynamics of adaptability,and the interpreter had her own consciousness in interpreting,and adopted supplementary,logic restructuring and revision strategies.Chapter Five is the conclusion,which summarizes the role of adaptation theory in interpreting practice.It is hoped that this report could provide reference for the Chinese-English consecutive interpreting of informational texts and guide interpreting,and make a contribution to the popularization of archaeological knowledge in Shandong Province.
