Abstract/Summary:
This practice report is based on the on-site consecutive interpreting which occurs at Shandong Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine.The report illustrates the major points and difficulties in the process through case analysis under the guidance of Schema Theory.This report consists of five chapters.The first part is task description,which introduces the task background,linguistic features of the guide’s speech and entrusters’ requirements.The second part gives a brief description of the interpreting process,including pre-interpreting,interpreting process and the post-interpreting review.The third part is theoretical framework which briefs the Schema Theory,the classification of schemas,and the application of the Theory in interpreting.The fourth part is case analysis.Under the guidance of the theory,the interpreter illustrates how to apply relevant interpreting strategies or coping tactics to listening,memory,note-taking,and expression through multiple cases.When applying the Schema Theory to expression or output,the interpreter discusses the interpreting strategies and techniques such as foreignization,literal translation,literal translation plus explanation in terms of different contexts of conformity,vacancy and conflict of Content Schema.The interpreter discusses how to apply the Schema Theory in the overall process of interpreting,enhancing the on-site effects and improving the quality of target language.The fifth part is the conclusion,which summarizes the gains and shortcomings in the interpreting practice,and puts forward some advice on consecutive interpreting of similar tasks.
