This report is based on the interpreting task of food import-and-export business negotiation between a Chinese food company and a Chilean importer on September 6,2022.Under the guidance of Gile’s Effort Model and Comprehension Equation, the report analyzes representative examples and targeted strategies the interpreter adopted in the interpreting task.Through in-depth analysis, the interpreter holds that different strategies need to be adopted under different circumstances of interpreting practice in order to reasonable effort distribution and precise utterance production. This report consists of five chapters. The first chapter is task description, which briefs on task background and linguistic features of the source text. The second chapter is process description, which encompasses pre-interpreting preparations, interpreting process and the entruster’s feedback and self-reflection after interpretation. The third chapter is theoretical basis, introducing Gile’s Effort Model of consecutive interpreting and Comprehension Equation. The fourth chapter is case analysis in which typical examples with specific strategies are selected from different stages of listening and analysis,memory,note-taking and production.Specifically, strategies in listening and analysis focus on reasonable speculation and key information analysis.Memorizing information through semantic chunks and contextual association helps to improve interpreting efficiency. With the help of linguistic and non-linguistic symbols, cognitive resources in note-taking are reasonably distributed. In the reproduction phase, considering linguistic features of the source text, the author omitted or restructured some of the source information so as to allocate effort reasonably. The last chapter is conclusion,in which findings of the interpreting task were summarized with the hope of providing references to other interpreters’ effort distribution, especially in the field of business interpreting.
