Since the fifteenth century, the European countries experienced the Age of Exploration. In the sixteenth century, the Ming Dynasty was involved in the wave of globalization, and Chinese porcelain was widely sold overseas. In the autumn and winter of 2021,the Art Museum,CUHK held an exhibition themed “Enchanting Expeditions: Chinese Trade Porcelain across the Globe”.The last lecture of the“Wednesday afternoon” lecture series of the exhibition is chosen for this simulated interpretation practice report, and the speaker is Dr.Teresa Canepa,an independent scholar from the United Kingdom. As this series of lectures is conducted online,to analyze the interpreting practice and summarize the reflection, the author chooses Professor Daniel Gile’s Effort Model Theory as the theoretical basis to explore and tries to put forward skills to improve the translation content and to guide further practice. The report includes pre-interpretation preparation, interpretation process,post-interpretaion analysis and reflection, etc. In the two cases when the interpreter’s cognitive energy can bear the translation task, and the cognitive load of the translation task exceeds the cognitive energy of the translator, the interpreter adopts techniques such as perfecting details, adjusting the word order, appropriately preserving and discarding, recapitulative expression, and making use of the Power Point to optimize the expression. The author’s interpreting ability has been improved through this mock interpreting practice. There are still many problems in the practice process, including insufficient pre-translation preparation, listening errors, uneven distribution of energy, and non-verbal expression problems. After translation,by reflecting on the practice process and referring to other translation practice reports, the author has determined a large number of coping methods such as inputting source languages, improving Chinese proficiency, increasing knowledge reserves, improving scene adaptability, and comprehensive pre-translation preparation. After translation,by reflecting on the practice process and referring to other translation practice reports, several improving methods have been determined, such as source language listening training, improving Chinese proficiency, increasing knowledge reserves, improving scene adaptability, and preparing interpretation comprehensively. This report summarizes the advantages and drawbacks of this mock interpreting practice and hopes to help the completion of other interpreting activities.
