As the international economic and trade activities are increasingly diversifying the modes of business communication, foreign trade negotiations in the COVID-19 pandemic have grown and shifted to online platforms.Such online negotiations are low-cost,rapid and efficient, making it a preferred mode of communication for foreign trade enterprises. As a result, online interpreting has also become a common form of business communication.Taking the Effort Models of Interpreting proposed by Professor Daniel Gile as a theoretical framework, the author selected an online interpreting task on export negotiation for printing business as the material of this report. In the report, the author further analyzed the whole process of consecutive interpreting, sorted out problematic sentences and proposed countermeasures.Guided by the Effort Models of Interpreting, the author chose typical problematic cases in this interpreting task and analyzed her listening and analysis effort,note-taking effort,note-reading effort, production effort and coordination effort embodied in consecutive interpreting from three aspects: listening and analysis,note-taking/reading and production. After exploring the causes of perfect cases and problematic cases, she proposed solutions for mistakes and strategies for improving interpreting skills through summary and reflection. This report is divided into five chapters. The first chapter contains the introduction to this report, and briefly introduces the task, focusing on its sources, features and significance. The second chapter presents the author’s preparation, performance and gains in this interpreting task from three aspects: preparation phase, interpreting phase and post-interpreting phase. The third chapter describes the Effort Models of Interpreting,as well as its growth and its practical significance. The fourth chapter proposes countermeasures and strategies,in addition to the detailed analysis of problems under the guidance of the Effort Models. The fifth chapter summarizes the findings,as well as limitations and reflections for future interpreting study and practice.Through writing the report, the author found the three following problems in this interpreting task: insufficient preparation, unskillful note-taking/reading and improper expression.According to the Effort Models of Interpreting, these issues are closely related to the distribution and availability of the efforts. Therefore, the author believes that interpreters should continuously improve their available efforts, and do an excellent job of coordination, thus providing sufficient and reliable guarantee for interpreting work and successfully completing the task.
