This practice report is based on the translation of the second chapter of Statistics in Corpus Linguistics: A New Approach. In this work, the author introduces research design and statistical methodologies in corpus linguistics, proposing a choice-based approach highlighting the application of the Wilson interval. This academic work is both innovative and practical.Chapter 2 outlines a typical experimental procedure, which includes data acquisition, hypothesis formulation, hypothesis evaluation through significance testing, result visualization, and experiment refinement. The language features of this chapter are characterized by a proliferation of technical terms, complex sentence structures, and logical and coherent discourse.Using the translation materials as a basis, the author discusses various translation cases from lexical, syntactic, and textual perspectives. At the lexical level, this report focuses on term translation, emphasizing the importance of a three-step process that involves checking, tracing the source, and verifying terms that do not have established translations. At the syntactic level, this report discusses passive sentences and reordering strategies.Lastly, the report highlights the manifestation of referential information and the cohesion and coherence of discourse at the textual level.Throughout the translation practice, the author places particular emphasis on achieving a scientific and logical language style. The standardization of terminology translation, the manifestation of referential information, and the expression of sentence logic are deemed of paramount importance. The accuracy and readability of the translation can be improved through amplification and restructuring. This translation practice report is intended to facilitate readers’ comprehension and learning of quantitative linguistic research and serve as a reference for future translators.
