A Report On The Translation Of The Academic Journals Sub-Corpus(Partial) Of Energy Discourse Corpus

With the global energy crisis and environmental pollution becoming increasingly serious,the development and utilization of clean renewable energy has become a common concern for all countries.Among the many concerned groups of renewable energy,scholars engaged in energy research are an important part.They not only take part in the research and development of renewable energy,but also pay close attention to the latest progress of the international academic community.An important way to achieve these progress is international academic papers.The establishment of the Academic Journals Sub-corpus of Energy Discourse Corpus is just to track the development of international energy and power industry,in order to provide some information support for the domestic related research.This report is based on the translation of the papers from the Sub-Corpus.Under the guidance of Peter Newpark’s Text Typology Theory,and in combination with the stylistic and linguistic characteristics of English academic papers,the corresponding translation skills applicable for typical translation issues in informative text are discussed.At the lexical level,the author discusses the translation of terminologies,nominalizations and hedges;at the syntactic level,The author focuses on the passive sentences and complex sentences which are very common in academic texts;at textual level,the author analyzes and explores the translation of paragraphs and abstracts.Based on the analysis of these typical translation examples in the text,the author points out that the communicative translation method should be adopted to solve the translation problems related to information transmission in the informative text,and appropriate translation strategies should be selected according to the specific situation of the translation problems.However,semantic translation method should be applied when dealing with language that reflect the attitude of the author although it is not common for expressive function language in the informative text..Through this report,the author hopes to provide scientific and normative Chinese text for the establishment of Academic Journal Sub-Corpus,provide reference for the academic research of energy and power industry,and make some contributions in the field of academic text translation.
