This report is based on the E-C translation of the book Corpus Linguistics for ELT: Research and Practice, which is an academic work. The translation of academic works will not only help the sharing of academic research results, but also promote academic exchanges in various countries. Thus,to translate academic works from other countries into Chinese is of profound significance so that the translator has chosen the book as the source text of this translation project. The book mainly introduces the application of corpus linguistics in different parts of ELT to provide reference to scholars or students in the field.Besides, expertise and technicality are the prominent features of academic works, which put forward requests to the translation of this kind of texts.According to Reiss' s text typology, the source text is an informative text which attaches great importance to precise transmission of information. So the translator first analyzes the content from extratextual factors and intratextual factors to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the source text, and then translates with different methods under the guidance of three rules of Skopos theory. The translator needs to do translation with certain purpose through the translation project, what is to convey the original information accurately and coherently and to ensure the target text is more understandable to the target readers. Therefore,in lexical level, the translator mainly uses strategies such as literal translation and conversion of word class;in syntactical level, translation methods of linear translation, conversion of order, division and substitution are adopted to deal with passive sentences and attributive clauses;in textual level, addition and reorganization of the text are applied to achieve cohesion and coherence. The translator has had a better understanding of translating academic works and has summarized translation strategies of terminologies, passive sentences and attributive clauses in the academic texts. Moreover, the last chapter has illustrated limitations of the translator, and it is expected that translators can lay a good foundation before doing translation by learning more background knowledge of the source text and improving writing skills in Chinese in daily studies.
