| National image is the overall cognition of a country’s comprehensive national strength and international status.Chinese textbooks for Chinese,overseas Chinese and ethnic Chinese have virtually influenced their cognition of China’s national image.Exploring the construction of China’s national image in Chinese textbooks is conducive to shaping good national image in users’ minds and enhancing international recognition.Based on the framework theory and using the quantitative statistics method,this paper analyzes the national image of China in the textbook Elementary Chinese Language from the dimensions of national image,attitude tendency and international relations: In terms of “national image dimension”,the content of this textbook is dominated by “culture” dimension,supplemented by “society” and “national”dimension,supplemented by other dimensions.In form,it combines thematic courses and scattered texts to shape China’s national image.In the aspect of “attitude tendency”,the textbook is generally distributed with “positive attitude mainly and middle attitude supplemented”,and exposes some negative problems in China.In terms of“international relations” the textbook focuses on “influencing the world” and also includes the influence of foreign cultures on China.According to the characteristics of this textbook in shaping China’s national image,Chinese textbooks can refer to the following three suggestions: First,reflect the pertinence of the textbook users,pay attention to the nationalization of the textbook and the stage of learners at different levels.Second,pay attention to the authenticity of the content and attitude.It should not only uphold the principle of authenticity,but also show China’s positive attitude to solve problems when presenting China’s existing problems.Third,highlight the international character of China’s image building.It should look around the world and show China’s international influence,international status and peaceful diplomacy. |
