This article adopts a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods,and selects three elementary Chinese textbooks in different periods and with a publication interval of more than 5 years as the research objects.They are "40 Lessons For Basic Chinese Course"(2003)and "Development Chinese · Elementary Comprehensive Course"(2012)and "Expressway to Chinese(Elementary)"(2019).According to the four basic dimensions of culture,society,economy,and geography embodied in the three textbooks,the characteristics of the framework of China’s national image are summarized.Then,the characteristics of the construction of the national image of the elementary Chinese textbooks are analyzed from the content and approach of the construction of the country’s image.The construction of the national image in the textbook is compared with the characteristics of the national image in the field of Journalism and Communication.The study found that the content of the elementary Chinese textbooks in the construction of the national image is culture-oriented and the development of China is the center.The construction of the national image in the textbooks pays more attention to showing the new atmosphere of China’s development.Most of the texts are based on the daily life of Chinese people and foreign students in China.In the choice of narrative perspectives of the textbooks,most of the narrative perspectives choose omniscience and limited perspectives,dialogues and argumentative essays mostly choose limited perspectives,and explanatory essays mostly choose objective perspectives.The three textbooks are mainly based on the daily records of international students and the Chinese people.Finally,it combines the characteristics and status quo of national image construction in the field of Journalism and Communication,hoping to provide a reference for the construction of future Chinese textbooks national image,and explore effective paths and methods for China’s national image formation.
