A Report On The Translation Of Post Corona:From Crisis To Opportunity

The translator chooses the introduction and chapters one and two of Post Corona:From Crisis to Opportunity as the translation material.The book was published on November 24,2020,and no Chinese translation is available.This book analyzes the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the American economy and higher education.Drawing up Reiss’ s Text Typology,this popular economic book can be considered as a text hybridizing informative and expressive functions.Thus,to render such text to Chinese calls for the translator to convey the information accurately,improve the readability and raise the target readers’ interest.The textual features show that there appear many proper nouns in the source text on the lexical level,and long and complex sentences and passive sentences are often used on the syntactic level.In order to be faithful to the original text,the translation needs to be accurate by clarifying the proper nouns and the logical relations among sentences.In addition,the source text adopts references and conjunctions as devices to be textually coherent on the discoursal level,and the translated text is supposed to stay coherent by dealing with these cohesion devices.This report applies the three rules of the Skopos Theory to analyze the translation of Post Corona: From Crisis to Opportunity.Guided by the skopos rule,the translator adopts literal and liberal translation methods to translate proper nouns and chapter headings to achieve the target text’s informative and expressive function.Under the guidance of the coherence rule,the translator can achieve intra-textual coherence by using translation methods such as amplification,part-of-speech conversion,and reconstruction.Guided by the fidelity rule,the translator uses literal translation and annotation to achieve semantic fidelity.By completing this translation report,the translator has a more thorough understanding of the Skopos Theory and hopes to provide some guidance and references for translating economic texts in light of the Skopos Theory.
