Difficulties And Coping Tactics Of Remote Simultaneous Interpreting Of Agricultural Conferences

This report is a simultaneous interpreting practice.The source speech is from the Soil Biology Conference in 2021 delivered by the famous soil health educator Joel Williams.With the development of economy and society,the national power of China is gradually improving.At the same time,the damage to the environment caused by this development has seriously affected human survival.Agriculture is the basis of necessities of human life,and it cannot be developed without optimizing the soil.The soil ecosystem is indispensable for the whole ecosystem.During the lecture the speaker mainly introduced the importance of root exudates in plant growth and the current state of research and development of root resilience technology.The interpreter simulated simultaneous interpreting of the whole speech and recorded it for about 54 minutes.This report is divided into the following parts.Firstly,the author introduces the background and purpose of this report.Secondly,the author analyzes the language feature and target audience of the speech,and selects Gile’s effort model as the guiding theory of this interpreting practice.Thirdly,the author summarizes the pre-interpreting preparation,the process of simulation practice and audience feedback.Fourthly,in response to the encountered difficulties during this interpreting practice,and guided by Gile’s effort model,the interpreter analyzes how interpreters should reasonably allocate their effort and choose appropriate interpreting strategies to improve the quality of interpreting when faced with online simultaneous interpreting tasks in agricultural sciences.Combing with the characteristics of the source language,the interpreter selects generalization and explanation as coping tactics to deal with the large number of technical terms,syntactic linearity and anticipation as coping tactics to deal with long and difficult sentences and paraphrasing and reformulation as coping tactics to deal with the ambiguous semantics.The interpreter recognizes that the improvement of the interpreting quality is closely related to a solid theoretical foundation and adequate preparation.Interpreter reflects on and summarizes the difficulties and solutions of this simultaneous interpreting practice and makes targeted suggestions for the simultaneous interpreting of agricultural distance interpreting.It is hoped that this will be helpful to future interpreting practice.
