A Post-Editing Report On The Chinese Translation Of A Report On The Investigation Of The Collision Between N207 And Rescue 1

Shipping safety is the key to the sustainable development of China’s shipping industry.The study of foreign maritime accident investigation reports is of a great significance for China to draw lessons,avoid marine risks,standardize shipping management and improve maritime traffic system.Under the theoretical guidance,the author analyses the main problems in the machine translation of the maritime accident investigation report written by Marine Accident Investigation Branch(MAIB)(Sections 1 to 5 and Annex A of A Report on the Investigation of the Collision between N207 and Rescue 1)by means of literature reading and cases analysis.The problems occur at three levels.At the vocabulary and phrase level,there are the translation errors of abbreviation,technical words,semi-technical words,non-technical words and phrases.At the sentence level,there are the problems such as the literal translation of passive voices,logic ambiguity and sentence order errors.At the text level,there are problems like the weakening of logical relations and cohesive errors.For the problems above,the author adopts translation methods including free translation,part of speech conversion,amplification,voice conversion,sentence order adjustment to solve problems in the practice report,making the translation easier for readers to understand and providing reference for relevant texts.
