A Post-Editing Report On E-C Translation Of Proposal Of Market Based Measures For The Reduction Of Greenhouse Gas Emissions From Ships

The global warming trend observed since the mid-20 th century has made the international shipping industry pay close attention to the reduction of greenhouse gas(GHG)emission from ships and put forward various mechanisms.The study of such mechanisms will help Chinese shipping industry to keep in step with the progress of international research on GHG reduction,promote the research on domestic mechanisms and strategies,propose more Chinese approaches and share more Chinese knowledge for the healthy and sustainable development of the shipping industry.This report is based on machine translation(MT)and post-editing(PE)practice of the Proposal of Market Based Measures for the Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Ships by Danish Maritime Authority and Technical University of Denmark.The translation practice takes Reiss’ s Text Typology as the theory guidance,readers’ better reading experience as the goal,and theoretical guidance,literature review and case analysis as main research methods.During the process of PE,the author finds various MT errors at symbolic,lexical,syntactical and textual levels,and then classifies them from the perspective of the violation of translation principles,and puts forward the following PE strategies for different errors: a)select proper word meaning based on the context and use tables to ensure the unified expression of the same term;b)change the passive voices and divide long sentences;c)add the missing parts and show the neglected details;d)clarify the differences between the original language and targeted language and express the original information in a proper way;e)manifest the logic behind and explicate what the pronouns signify.In addition,the author adopts voice changes,inversion,amplification,division,combination,and other translation technique to output translation accurately and efficiently.It is hoped that the PE experience accumulated from the practice can give reference for the translation of similar texts in the future.
