A Report Of Publicity Text Translation In "5W" Of Communication

With the increasingly frequent exchanges between China and the international community,publicity of China in other languages plays an important role to establish a good international image of China and to bridge China and the rest of the world.The translated version of The Proposal for Comprehensively Elevating the Urban Soft Power of Shanghai will not only embody the charm of Shanghai as the new blueprint for its development,but also represent the developmental trend of urban modernization in China.Shanghai is the largest economic center in China,and the image of Shanghai also mirrors China,which brings the local culture and current situation far to the outside world.The translation practice is done under the guidance of the Communication Theory with its 5W mode as the analysis approach which maintains consistence in textual style all through.Specific cases for translation are cited for the analysis from three perspectives,namely textual cohesion,sentential structure and lexical semantics.The strategies of translation in this practice can be summarized as:(1)amplification and omission in translation of Chinese idioms,ideological vocabulary and numerical acronyms;(2)sentence segmentation and subject supplement in a large number of long sentences;(3)information logic reconstruction for textual coherence.By the practice,experience is gained for a qualified translation to the greatest extent by referring to a variety of translation means for verification such as parallel texts and the Internet tools.This report highlights the difficulties in the translation and wraps up some strategies as solutions,so as to provide reference for the translation of similar texts.
