| With the current trend of second language learning at a younger age, more and more parents are recognising the importance of children acquiring a second language, and the ranks of children learning a second language are gradually growing, with Chinese becoming one of the most popular languages for overseas children to learn.Since the late 1990 s,improving the efficiency of foreign students’ learning of Chinese characters has become a hot topic of research. In the actual teaching of Chinese characters, the differences in Chinese character learning between students from Chinese and non-Chinese cultural circles are more obvious, and the differences in cultural backgrounds between the two result in their different abilities to accept Chinese characters. In my practice of teaching Chinese to foreign children online,I have found that children from non-Chinese cultural circles have a weaker ability to learn Chinese characters. This paper analyses the Chinese character writing errors of overseas children aged5 to 12 years old who are taught by the author in a non-Kanji cultural circle.Firstly, the current status of research on the teaching of Chinese characters and the analysis of Chinese character errors among overseas children from non-Chinese character cultures is presented in three aspects: teaching of Chinese characters to overseas children,Chinese character errors among overseas children and types of errors.Secondly,it introduces the characteristics of online Chinese character teaching for overseas children in non-Kanji cultural circles, and explains the advantages and disadvantages of online Chinese character teaching respectively.Again, with reference to previous classifications of Chinese character errors, the collected errors are classified into additive errors, misplaced errors, misplaced errors and irregularities in stroke order, and dynamic and static comparative analyses are conducted on the Chinese character errors of children of different ages according to the above error types. Finally, the reasons for the errors are explored in terms of the teacher’s factor, the child learner’s factor and the differences between the script systems. |
