Guizhou Baijiu culture has played a significant role in Chinese Baijiu culture throughout5,000-year history and is contemporaneous with the rise of Chinese civilization. The propagation of Guizhou Baijiu culture has grown to be a significant component of cultural propaganda as a result of the continual rise in Guizhou Baijiu exports and the ongoing strengthening of interactions between Guizhou and other nations. The original text of this translation report,Committing to the Dignity and Opportunity of Chi Shui River Worldwide belongs to reportage category, which reflects the real life, historical development and actual events in the Chishui River Basin of Guizhou in a non-fictional way from the aspects of humanities, geography and social development. It is shown that translating reportage texts conduces to enhancing the application of translator behavior criticism studies as well as preserving and promoting Guizhou Baijiu culture.Based on Professor Zhou Lingshun’s translator behavior criticism theory and its Truth-seeking-Utility-attaining evaluative model of continuum, and given the characteristics of reportage, namely documentary and literary feature, this paper analyzes the typical cases in the fifth chapter of this book at lexical, syntactic and discourse level, striving to reproduce the documentary and literary characteristics of the original text.It is found that the translator uses two translation techniques at the lexical level to achieve a reasonable balance between the original text and the target reader, choosing the choice of meaning to preserve the faithful content of original text.Nouns are frequently to be chosen in English texts, while Chinese texts tend to use verbs.Use part of speech conversion to utility-attaining the target reader. With the aim of utility-attaining conforms to the target reader or environment, the translation uses amplification and inversion at the syntactic level. At the discourse level, finally, the translator uses the grammatical cohesion and lexical cohesion to meet the characteristics of target translation, achieving utility-attaining cohesion and coherence in target discourse.Taken together, these findings suggest that Truth-seeking-Utility-attaining evaluative model of continuum based on translator behavior meets the translation requirements of reportage, which can not only accurately convey the documentary nature of reportage, but also reflect its literary nature. In order to achieve the best balance between the original text and the reader, the translator should flexibly use various translation techniques based on a deep understanding of the original text to achieve a balance between the author’s content and extra-translation effect.
