Among all levels of international Chinese language education,Chinese language education in colleges and universities bears the important responsibility of cultivating professional talents and plays as an important role in promoting basic teaching.The construction of the Chinese language education information database in universities around the world,the comprehensive understanding of the ecological lineage of Chinese in the region and the profound understanding of the path and paradigm of the development of Chinese in universities around the world are conducive to improving the accuracy and effectiveness of international Chinese communication.The research area of this paper focus on the colleges and universities in Alberta,Canada.From the perspective of region and country,explore the development and construction of Chinese language education.Based on the information from each university’s official website,the author completed an exhaustive search of the website information of 13 colleges and universities in Alberta,integrated and analyzed the higher education policy information of Canadian education departments and news reports,and obtained a wealth of basic data from departments,courses and teachers.After that,two typical cases of "University of Alberta" and "University of Calgary" are selected to present the information of Chinese courses,teachers and projects within the department in detail combined with the interview content of relevant teachers,which include detailed data and rich content.The study found that the coverage rate of Chinese language education in universities in Alberta was nearly 60%,and the distribution area was concentrated,and most of which were well-known public universities in the province.Chinese courses usually offered in the Faculty of Art,which is divided into two categories:"East Asian Studies" and "Language and Culture".The stage of teaching stays in undergraduate,and the number of courses have significantly different.There are two forms of Chinese courses:"project" and "course".And student usually take Chinese as an elective subject,which can help them to get credit easily.Chinese language education materials are mainly developed in North America,which fits the characteristics and learning needs of local students.Most Chinese teachers are hired as lecturer on short-term contracts,and the ranks of teachers are not stable.To sum up,the development model of Chinese teaching in universities in Alberta can be found:there are profound social environment and open policy,as well as smooth communication channels such as "teachers","courses" and "projects".In the future,the economic and cultural value of Chinese will be deeply rooted in the society,and the communication between Canada and China will be more often in the future.The information also reflects the difficulties facing the further development of Chinese teaching:unstable Chinese teachers,Chinese academic leaders are not prominent;High-level interaction is less,curriculum supply and demand contradiction;The school is short of funds,foreign funds are limited.Finally,from the perspective of cooperation between Chinese and Canadian universities,the author puts forward the following suggestions:contact Chinese communities,so that they can make a bridge between the role of the government and the non-governmental exchanges between China and Canada;Support the Chinese student community and enhance the sense of identity among students;We will build a common platform for academic exchanges between China and foreign countries and a community for the development of Chinese language teaching,and set up“Chinese+”vocational courses,In order to provide data reference and academic support for Chinese language communication in Canadian universities,Chinese-Canadian education cooperation and international regional studies on Chinese education.
