A Report On C-E Simulated Simultaneous Interpreting Of Round Table Discussion Of AI And Metaverse Forum At 2022 BAAI Conference Guided By The Interpretive Theory

The year 2021 is dubbed "the First Year of the Metaverse." It can be said that the wave of the Metaverse has swept the whole world.Both traditional industries and emerging technology giants have shown great interest in becoming the "Number One Player." The Metaverse forum provides an excellent opportunity for industry exchanges and an important way for the public to understand the latest development of the Metaverse.To grasp the pulse of this era,the 2022 Beijing BAAI Conference AI and Metaverse Forum was held.This paper is aimed to carry out a C-E simulated simultaneous interpreting of Round Table Discussion of AI and Metaverse Forum at 2022 BAAI Conference under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory.Through this interpreting practice,the author hopes to enable target language audiences to have a deeper understanding of the views,prospects,and countermeasures of domestic experts and scholars on the Metaverse,as well as the Metaverse discourse rights and other issues.According to the Triangular Model of Interpreting,which mainly consists of"understanding-deverbalizing-reexpressing",the author analyzes the interpreting practice from four aspects:vocabulary contextualization,sentence reconstruction,cohesion,and creative expression.She also explains the strategies she flexibly adopted,including word-formation copying,transliteration with annotations,omission,simplified contextual interpretation,and reasonable speculation,as well as the difficulties she encountered during the interpreting process to better detach from the linguistic forms,and provide target audience with more accurate and easily understandable high-quality interpretation during the interpreting process,especially in highly impromptu round table discussions.Through this practice,the author finds that simplified contextual interpretation guided by the Interpretive Theory is most suitable for impromptu speeches with a high level of colloquialism.Meanwhile,in the actual interpreting process,the speaker’s accent,speaking speed,the target audience’s background,the interpreter’s physical condition,pre-translation preparation,and in-translation emotional transmission and on-site reaction and adaptation will all impact the final interpreting effect.The author hopes that this report can provide some reference for interpreting practice under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory to better spread the voice of China,and also provide some pre-translation preparation and in-translation adaptation references for the interpreting practice of impromptu round table discussions.
