| The translation of novels has been a significant approach of cultural exchanges among countries,among which mystery novels are widespread for their acceptable and fascinating plots.Having a long history,detective novels of the West are more mature and rich on their details and usually have strong theoretical and scientific support.The introduction of them can greatly promote the domestic development of mystery novels.In translating mystery novels,remaining the flavor and suspense atmosphere needs to be laid stress on so that readers can better taste the fun.Therefore,it is valuable to do some research on the translation of such novels.Translation has certain norms to follow.The whole process of translation,such as the selection of the original text,the choice of translation strategies and the use of translation skills,must follow certain translation norms.Norms Theory of Gideon Toury does good guidance to the translation of such novels.This report analyzes the translation of chapter 1 to6 of No One Home in order to explore the appropriate operational norms.Mystery novels are characterized by strong logic,complex plots and distinct characters and this novel specially uses a lot of environment descriptions and character descriptions in order to build the suspense atmosphere.Therefore,the preliminary norms,which determines the selection of the original text,the initial norms,which decide the proper translation strategy to get close to the target language and acceptable translation,and the operational norms,which help the translator to use some translation techniques such as change of location,division and combination,omission,addition and annotation,and word selection,are applied to do the research. |
