E-C Translation Strategies Of Literary Critical Essays From The Perspective Of Toury's Theory Of Translation Norms

Since the Reform and Opening-up policy was launched,China has introduced Western literature inside and Chinese literature outside more frequently.In this process,the introduction part of the literary books becomes more important in order to attract foreign readers who might decide whether to read a book according to its introduction.Thus,more,at least equal importance shall be given to studies on its translation.However,there are no enough studies on translation of this type of literary critical essays,which shows that studies on the translation of literary critical essays has not received enough attention.Since literary critical essays are aimed to introduce the literary works,it is significant to follow certain norms during the translation,so as to help readers of target language understand and get interested in the works through reading of the translation of the intfoduction part.Toury's theory of translation norms,which includes initial,preliminary and operational norms,can provide a guide for the wholetranslation process.Also,the acceptable translation of Toury's theory focuses on the norms of target language,which makes it a significant guide for the translation of this sort of text.Therefore,Toury's theory of translation norms can serve as a theoretical guide for such type of translation.To deal with difficulties in translation,this report,taking the characteristics of literary critical essays into account,discusses and analyzes how the translator is guided by literary critical essays' translation norms from the aspects of lexical,grammatical and syntactic,and writing style features based on the textual linguistic norms.By adopting Toury's theory of translation norms and taking into account the features of literary critical essays,this report discusses a series of translation strategies of the Introduction and Notes of Emma,hoping to offer a translation guide of similar texts.
