At present, the study of sign language translation is developing rapidly, but the research in this field has started relatively late in China.Linguistic Coping Strategies in Sign Language Interpreting is an academic work on sign language interpreting, which discusses the linguistic coping strategies used by interpreters in the process of interpreting. Therefore, the translation of this kind of text has a certain practical significance.Guided by Reiss’ s text type theory, this report summarizes the methods and techniques of Chinese translation of academic sign language texts, taking chapter four and five of Linguistic Coping Strategies in Sign Language Interpreting as examples.Based on the characteristics of rigorous and objective language and strong logic, the selected source text belongs to informative text.Through case studies, the translator analyzes the translation difficulties encountered and the solutions at lexical, syntactic and textual level from the three principles of accuracy, logicality and fluency. On the principle of accuracy, the translator uses literal translation and annotation to solve the difficulties in the translation of proper nouns. With the help of Wordsmith, the average sentence length of the source text is 29 words, which shows that there are many long sentences. The translator adopts the division translation technique. In order to ensure the accuracy of the translation, the translator adopts translation techniques of preserving reiteration and clarifying references. On the Principle of logicality, the source text is logically rigorous and clear. The translator reconstructs the logical relations of the source text through translation techniques such as omission, conversion of part of speech, explicitation, conversion of word order, addition of junctions, and logical reconstruction. On the principle of fluency, the source text is complicated to understand because there are many polysemous words and attributive clauses. The translator makes the translation readable by supplying category words, choosing word meaning, flexibly translating attributive clauses and removing of parentheses and dashes. The purpose of this report is to explore the application of Reiss’ s text type theory in the Chinese translation of sign language texts.Based on the three principles of accuracy, logicality and fluency, the corresponding translation methods and techniques are summarized in order to provide references for the study of sign language interpreting.
