A Translation Project Report Of Sight Translation, Sight Interpreting Meeting At The Cross Modes: Sign Language Interpreters As Translators

This is a translation report of Sight Translation, Sight Interpreting Meeting atthe Cross Modes: Sign Language Interpreters as Translators. The volume containsthe contributions delivered at the efsli Annual Conference held in Vietri sul Mare on16th-18th September2011, which represents the interesting and novel discussionsfrom many of the questions raised by sight translation on the one hand and by theemerging figure of the Deaf translator on the other.Carmela Bertone discusses the focalization strategy used in sign languages andintroduced the question-focus strategy. Sarah Bown and Kristiaan Dekesel present apilot study and suggest that a module should be included in sign language interpretertraining programs and enriched by Think Aloud Protocols to document the thoughtprocesses of interpreters during the sight translation process. Valeria Buonomo andPietro Celo’s contribution focuses on the general issue of translating poetry and on themore specific issue of translating poetry into sign language, which impliesintersemiotic translation.The report falls into two parts. The first part consists of four chapters, namely,the introduction, the study background which contains the theoretical basis SkoposTheory and the introduction of the source text, the difficulties in translation and thetranslation methods, the remaining unsolved problems and the project summary; thesecond part consists of the source text and the translated version.
