In recent years, under the background that people pay more attention to enriching the spiritual world, popular science texts are favored by the public for their easy-to-understand language and social education function. Therefore, the translation of popular science texts exerts an important value on the development of popular science and the transmission of popular science culture. The selected chapters of this report are from the book The Last Giants: The Rise and Fall of the African Elephant, which not only disseminates scientific knowledge about the African elephants, but also outlines the cruel jungle law from the perspective of the African elephant’s survival, evolution, and crisis, displaying the similarities between animals and humans. The author puts forward such a contemporary proposition of respect and reverence for life by emphasizing the impact of the African elephants on the ecological environment and the difficulties faced by the African elephants. It will serve as a good warning to the readers.Taking Newmark’s Text Typology as the theoretical basis, this report combines relevant cases to study the translated text from three aspects: lexical level, syntactic level and textual level. The translator strives to make the translation easy to understand by ellipsis,annotation,paraphrase,four-character structure, word order adjustment and other translation methods,so that the translated text meets the reading expectation of the target language readers. It presents the guiding significance of the communicative translation strategy for the translation of popular science texts, aiming to provide valuable references for the translation of popular science texts.
