The 2020 COVID-19 outbreak came with rounds of social lockdowns globally. As a result, people moved many of their communications online, including classrooms.Against such backdrop,Philippines Christian University changed its postgraduate and doctoral courses into a remote teaching program, allowing online attendance and examination via VOOV.The author was the interpreter of the Advanced Operation Management course, which lasts eight weeks(February 20 th.– April.10th)and requires online interpreting service. The author was responsible for interpreting the lecture into the Chinese and ensuring an active virtual classroom and high efficiency in the context of remote teaching. This report is based on the sixth lecture of this course.Through case analysis and text analysis, the author takes the perspective of Verschueren’s adaptation theory in this report to discuss what translation strategies were used to deal with redundancy as well as what mistakes have been made. The discussion is pinned on actual examples and includes the self-reflection of the author and suggestions for other interpreters. On one hand, focusing on the needs of the professor and the students as well as the requirements of remote classroom, three interpreting strategies are identified and analyzed in this report including retention, addition and transformation in order to retain the efficacy of“redundant” information. On the other hand, the author has summarized two major mistakes in this practice – mistranslation and omissions, and has found three causes, which include misjudgment about redundancy, inappropriate priority in applying adaption theory and unwise translation strategy choice. This report is a combination of the previous studies and the author’s own practical experience and is written to serve as reference for other interpreters who carry out similar activities.
