Interpretation is an intercultural communicative activity. The conciseness of the output often determines the effectiveness of the whole activity. An interpreter has to achieve a balance between active listening, note taking and language conversion so as to avoid redundancy.Impromptu speech, with its randomness and colloquial style, makes the source language more challenging for interpreters.Under these extra challenges, sometimes an interpreter cannot distribute his/her energy properly, which may lead to redundancy. Therefore, how to better the output while minimizing redundancy has always been a difficult task. The paper constitutes a case study of The 3rd Forum of Enterprise Digitization Mock Conference. Before the actual analysis of the case, the author first classifies the extra challenges posed by impromptu speech, defines redundancy in different fields, and how the former leads to the latter. Then, based on a pragmatic approach towards the case, the author summarize redundancy in the case into four categories, namely fillers,self-correction,complicated sentences and unnecessary explanation. Finally, based on all the findings, the author analyses the root causes behind each of them and gives some practical advice to better cope with redundancy in the future.
