| This report is based on the simulated consecutive interpreting of commentary at the Shaanxi History Museum.Under the guidance of adaptation theory, the author analyzes the problems in the interpreting task and proposes relevant interpreting strategies. The author transcribed her interpreting practice and reviewed previous research on museum commentary interpreting and culture-loaded expressions. The report also uses the adaptation theory as a guide to reflect on the interpreting performance. The main difficulties encountered in interpreting culture-loaded expressions include inaccurate judgment on cultural defaults, inability to give appropriate interpreting in face of lexical gaps, and the presence of redundant information and non-equivalence.Then the author analyzes the reasons behind these problems. There are three main reasons, namely, lack of specific knowledge, high information density, and information dissimilarity among the commentator, the interpreter and the audience.Based on cause analysis, the report proposes four interpreting strategies to deal with the problems, namely, explicitation, transformation, compression, and approximation. |
