| The "Chinese Bridge" series of competitions is a large-scale event organized by the Chinese and Foreign Language Exchange and Cooperation Center,of which the Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students is the most representative and influential Chinese language competition. The Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students has been successfully held for 19 times until 2020.The main research object of this thesis is the 81 objective language questions that present in the finals of the 18th and 19th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students. The competition questions are divided into five categories according to the focus of the examination: phonetics, vocabulary, grammar,Chinese characters and comprehensive categories. The author systematically analyzes the characteristics, similarities, differences, and difficulties of the two competitions by using statistical analysis method, comparative analysis method and interview method. The results of the study show that the two competitions present different propositional characteristics. The characteristics of the 18th competition are both knowledge and entertainment, basic and innovative, comprehensiveness and systematization.Meanwhile the 19th competition questions are characterized by simplicity and connection.Through the comparative analysis,it shows that the questions in the two competitions have similarities in terms of structural auxiliaries,Chinese character reduplication and cultural vocabulary relating to age and appellation, however they are quite different in professionalism, entertainment, and types of question investigation.By analyzing the difficulty of the questions,it shows that the objective language questions in the final rounds of Chinese Bridge are moderately difficult for the participants, and the difficulty of the questions is unevenly distributed, with vocabulary questions being the most difficult, and Chinese characters being relatively easy. The difficulty level of the questions according to the syllabus is not entirely consistent with the difficulty of the questions,as the higher difficulty level of the questions is actually not very difficult for some contestants, while the lower difficulty level of the questions is very difficult. In the end, inspired by the research results, the author puts several suggestions for the design of the questions for the final rounds of Chinese Bridge, and also makes some suggestions for the preparation and teaching of the contestants according to the theory of the washback effect. |
