Smart phones have become an indispensable communication and entertainment tool in people’s lives. With the continuous innovation of technology,full-screen mobile phones have gradually penetrated into people’s daily life at an amazing speed because of their excellent appearance and display functions. The upgrading of consumption concept makes users pay more attention to user experience and satisfaction when buying smart phones. The popularity of full-screen mobile phones makes users feel the deficiencies in their operation.Users expend different efforts and cognitive resources when interacting at different locations on the screen, resulting in different satisfaction and user experience in different areas of the mobile phone screen.Due to the high screen ratio of the screen, only part of the screen is a comfort area for users to experience while part of the screen becomes a dead corner for interaction. The diversification and complexity of use scenarios also make users often need to complete different tasks, adopt different body postures and face the frequently changing operation frequency when using mobile phones.Based on this,in order to solve user experience problems when operating full-screen mobile phones and existing problems in interaction design of full-screen mobile phones, this study explores the spatial location and influencing factors of screen operation comfort zone of full-screen mobile phones. In this study,50 college students(28 males,22 females;Mean age 23.52 years, all right-handed)conducted two studies. In study 1,the spatial position of comfortable zone,non-comfortable zone and difficult zone for screen operation of full-screen mobile phone was discussed under different holding modes. In experiment 1a 3×4subject design was adopted. The independent variables were screen area(explore comfortable zone, explore non-comfortable zone, explore difficult zone)and holding mode(one-handed thumb,two-handed thumb,two-handed index finger and two-handed horizontal screen),and the dependent variables were operating performance and subjective comfort,so as to measure user experience in different areas. In study 2,the effects of task type, operation posture and operation frequency on user experience of screen operation comfort zone of full-screen mobile phone were investigated. In experiment 2a,a 3×3 experimental design was adopted, and the independent variables were task type(click, double click and drag)and screen area(comfortable zone,non-comfortable zone and difficult zone).Experiment 2b was a3×3 experimental design in which the independent variables were operating posture(sitting forearm with support, sitting forearm without support, walking)and screen area(comfortable zone,non-comfortable zone, difficult zone).Experiment 2c also adopted a 3×3 experimental design in which the independent variables were operation frequency(slow, medium and fast)and screen area(comfortable zone,non-comfortable zone and difficult zone). The dependent variables of the three experiments were operating performance, physiological indexes and subjective comfort, and the physiological indexes were electromyography of skin and right First Dorsal Interosseous and Abductor Pollicis Brevis. The results show that :(1)the main effect of screen area is significant, and the operational efficiency and subjective comfort of exploring comfort area are significantly higher than other areas. Moreover, there is a significant interaction between the screen area and the holding mode, and there is little difference in operating efficiency and subjective comfort between different areas.2)the main effect of task type was significant, the operating performance and subjective comfort of dragging was significantly lower than that of other tasks, and the physiological index was significantly higher than that of other tasks. There is a significant interaction between task types and screen areas. The operating performance, physiological indexes and subjective comfort of the three regions were significantly different when dragging.(3)The operating efficiency and subjective comfort of walking were significantly lower than those of other postures, and the physiological indexes were significantly higher than those of other postures. There was a significant interaction between operating posture and screen area, and the differences in operating performance, physiological indicators and subjective comfort between the three areas increased significantly during walking.(4)The operating frequency has a significant main effect. When the frequency is fast, the operating efficiency and subjective comfort are significantly lower than other frequencies, and the physiological indicators are significantly higher than other frequencies. There is a significant interaction between operating frequency and screen area, operating performance, physiological indicators and subjective comfort significantly increased in the three areas when the frequency was higher. The main conclusions of this study are as follows :(1)when users operate full-screen smart phones, the screen can be divided into comfortable zone,non-comfortable zone and difficult zone according to the user’s performance and user experience in different screen areas. The position and area of comfortable zone,non-comfortable zone and difficult zone are different when operating the mobile phone with different holding methods.(2)Task type, operation posture and operation frequency all affect different screen areas. When a user performs a difficult drag task, the user experience of the three areas varies greatly. While walking, the difference in user experience between different screen areas is obvious. The user experience is better when using the phone at medium frequency, and the difference between the three areas on the screen is greatest when using the phone at high frequency. The above conclusions extend the relevant theories of user experience such as the comfortable zone of smartphone screen operation, and also provide scientific basis and technical reference for the overall screen design of smartphone. |
