| The source text of this translation project is the first chapter of The Future Earth:A Radical Vision for What’s Possible in the Age of Warming.As extreme weather events are more frequent than ever,the author of the source text presents the natural disasters brought about by climate change with the aim to call upon people for immediate actions to reverse the adverse effects of climate change.The translation of the source text will thus be of great value for domestic environmental protection and climate change researches.The source text is informative according to Newmark’s text typology theory.Therefore,the primary task of the translator is to convey the original information to the target readers accurately.The translator chooses Peter Newmark’s communicative translation as the guiding theory during translation.Moreover,based on the linguistic features of the source text at the lexical and syntactical levels,relevant translation techniques are adopted to resolve the difficulties in translation.Lexically,extension and specification are used to translate polysemes while transliteration and literal translation with annotation are utilized to deal with proper nouns.Syntactically,as the source text is structurally rigorous with many complex sentences,the translator mainly employs division and reconstruction to make the target text conform to the language habits of the target readers.Finally,translation techniques and strategies applied in the translation process are summarized to provide references for translating similar texts in the field. |
