| The source text of this translation report is the first chapter of Consequences of Capitalism:Manufacturing Discontent and Resistance,co-authored by Noam Chomsky,an internationally renowned scholar and Marv Waterstone,an emeritus at the University of Arizona.The selected material illustrates the complex connections between common sense and power,and discusses the internal mechanism of the capitalist societies.The translation of this text can help people understand the disadvantages of Western capitalism,and strengthen confidence in the path,theory,system,and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics.The translation report consists of four parts.The first part describes main contents of the source text,the information of the authors and the significance of this topic.In the second part,the present author introduces the translation process,which includes the description of the stylistic features of the source text.According to these analyses,the translator selected Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory as the guiding theory.The style of political texts and the difficulties in translation are also included in this part.The third part is the case analysis,in which the translator mainly analyzes the translation of terminology,appositive,parentheses and discourse style with the guidance of the theory.Various translation methods are used,such as extension of words’ meaning,division,conversion of voice and rearrangement of sentence order,etc.to ensure an accurate and fluent translation.Through this translation practice,the translator has consolidated the knowledge of related social politics,and the basic bilingual conversion abilities and translation skills have been improved while learning lessons from the experience.In the future,the translator will enrich the related professional knowledge and strengthen the sense of responsibility further. |
