With the popularity of social media,there are more diverse ways for the public to obtain information,which contributes to the increase of information that is accessible to citizens.At the same time,the emergence of social media has also exerted a certain impact on traditional journalists and the credibility of the government.Based on the translation of the argumentative text Vox Populi? Citizen Alienation and the Political and Media Elite,this report analyzes the text type,text features and translation difficulties of the source text,and proposes suitable translation methods and techniques.This report is divided into five parts.The first part is introduction that includes the description of the background and significance of the translation task as well as the translation process.The second part is source text analysis,which briefly covers the text type and analyzes the text features of the source text.The third part mainly discusses the Functional Equivalence Theory,the theoretical basis of the translation task,and points out the feasibility of applying the theory.The fourth part contains the translation difficulties from the lexical,syntactic and textual levels,an analysis of translation examples under the guidance of the Functional Equivalence Theory and the summary of translation methods and techniques,including omission,amplification,back translation,transference,voice conversion,restructuring,employment of brackets and explicitation.The fifth part briefly summarizes the translation task.
