| The source text for the translation practice consists of Chapter 5 and Chapter 11 of Under the Sky We Make: How to Be Human in a Warming World, written by Dr.Kimberly Nicholas. These parts start with the causes of ecological degradation to reveal the impact of personal behaviors on the environment, and aim to convince readers of individual power and value, thus promoting social and cultural change.Under the Sky We Make: How to Be Human in a Warming World is a vocative text with subordinate structures,a series of compound words, and complex modifiers, making the source text challenging to translate. The Translator analyzed the translation difficulties at the lexical, syntactic and discoursal levels.Under the guidance of Jef Versehueren’s adaptation theory,The Translator adopted some translation techniques such as addition, omission, repetition, and etc.,so as to adapt to the context and linguistic structure of the source text, and the translation difficulties have been relatively well settled. This report consists of five parts. The first part is the introduction, including the background, significance and purpose of the translation task, and the structure of the report. The second part is the source text description, including the introduction and analysis of the source text. The third part is the translation process, including the pre-translation preparation,while-translation difficulties and post-translation review. The fourth part is case analysis. The Translator, guided by Jef Versehueren’s adaptation theory, applied the translation techniques to solve the difficulties encountered in the translation process and the fifth part is the conclusion, including the findings and gains from the translation practice as well as limitations and suggestions for the report. |
