Since the first appearance of the term "course ideology and politics" in 2014,researchers have become more and more aware of the importance of developing subject courses as a way of ideological and political education.Therefore,the new concept of research and practice gradually became a hot topic in the field of ideology and politics,as well as in the field of subject teaching.Middle school education is a crucial period in shaping and developing students’ perceptions of good and evil.Ideological and political education is especially important for middle school students.Although some scholars have realized the importance of ideological and political English courses and textbooks for English ideological and political in middle school,few studies have further analyzed the situation and influencing factors of English teachers’ identification,use and expansion of ideological and political materials in textbooks.Therefore,this research investigates the reasons that affect the use of ideological and political materials in the expanded textbooks by English teachers in junior high schools,and analyzes the division standards and frequency of ideological and political elements in the English textbooks for junior high schools published by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press.Political teaching provides references to help them identify ideological and political elements more clearly,and creatively use teaching materials for English ideological and political teaching.Based on the background that the country encourages active exploration and implementation of curriculum ideology and politics,this study randomly selected 50 English teachers from three middle schools in Weifang City as the research objects,and tried to explore the following three questions by means of questionnaires and face-to-face interviews:(1)Which categories can the ideological and political elements in the English textbooks of FLTRP be divided into?(2)How do junior high school English teachers identify,use and expand ideological and political elements in textbooks?(3)What are the factors that affect teachers’ identification and use of ideological and political elements in textbooks?The research results found that:(1)The ideological and political elements in the English textbooks of the FLTRP version of junior high school can be divided into five dimensions: political identity,family and country feelings,constitutional and legal awareness,humanistic quality,and moral cultivation.(2)Junior high school English teachers cannot fully identify the ideological and political materials in the textbooks,and the use and development of ideological and political materials in the textbooks are not ideal.(3)Factors such as "teaching age","whether to serve as a class teacher",and "region of the school" also have a strong impact on the ideological and political status of English teachers’ courses.Based on the above results,this study puts forward suggestions on how to integrate ideological and political education into English textbooks and teaching in junior high schools,strategies for teachers to effectively use and expand ideological and political materials in English textbooks,and principles of using ideological and political elements in textbooks.Overall,this study satisfactorily answered the three research questions and achieved the predetermined objectives.In other words,the results show the key factors that affect teachers’ use of ideological and political materials in expanded textbooks,and also provide feasible suggestions for teachers on how to effectively use and expand ideological and political materials in English textbooks for English courses. |
