The original text of this translation practice report is selected from the first two chapters of Patton and Rommel--Men of War in the Twentieth Century. The book exists as a biography of military history. In the first chapter, the author introduces the life and experience of the two famous generals of Patton and Rommel. The Patton lived a rich life, and Patton once studied at the Virginia Military Institute and West Point, which were excellent in military quality.Rommel, one of three leading German generals in the Second World War,came from a less illustrious background and had a more torpid start to his military career. The original text is formal, which is suitable for translation practice. This report firstly analyzes the background and significance of the topic,as well as the overall structure of the report, and then briefly introduces the source text, its author, and the translation process. Moreover, from the perspective of lexis, syntax and discourse, the translator focuses on summarizing and analyzing the translation difficulties encountered during the translation process and gives corresponding solutions. At first, from the lexical point of view, the difficulties mainly include the translation of proper nouns, parts of speech, and words with extensive meaning, which are respectively dealt with employing transliteration and annotation, conversion, and semantic extension. The second aspect involves syntax, mainly adverbial clauses, attributive clauses, and sentences containing dashes. The translator uses linear translation, division, and changing punctuation to cope with relative problems. Then there is the discourse level, and the challenges lie in the cohesion and coherence of the text. The translation methods mainly include the repetition and the addition of the conjunction. The above is the main content of the three and four chapters, which is the most significant part of the complete text. Finally, the translator read through the writing of the full text, summarized the shortcomings of the report, and offered relevant suggestions. In this translation, the translator tried his utmost to retain the rigor of the biographical works and to make the translation faithful to the original text.At the same time,it can also provide a reference for the translator to translate biographical texts in the future.Through this translation practice, the translator has accumulated a certain amount of translation experience but also realized his defects. For example, the difficulties and solutions of translation are mainly limited to vocabulary and syntax. In addition, the writing of the report lacks the application of translation theory;thereby, theoretical research should be strengthened, and efforts should be made to combine theory with translation practice better, and to deliver a better translation.
