The acceleration of the globalization process has promoted exchanges and cooperation among countries.Public diplomacy activities are regarded as an important way for sovereign countries to cope with international challenges and seek competitive advantages. To enhance the efficiency and impact of US public diplomacy, the U.S.Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy annually releases a report to evaluate its public diplomacy activities. This translation report is based on the author’s translation practice for the 2021 Comprehensive Annual Report on Public Diplomacy & International Broadcasting,a resource for her supervisor’s research project.According to Peter Newmark’s text typology theory and the features of the text, the source text can be categorized as an informative text and is more suitable for communicative translation strategy. On the basis of the translation practice, this report analyzes the Chinese translation of diplomatic texts from the lexical, syntactic and textual perspectives respectively. At the lexical level, when translating proper nouns and coined adjectives, the translator searches for authoritative parallel texts and relevant information to ensure the accuracy of the target text. From the perspective of syntactic level, the translator focuses on the information delivery and makes the target text in accordance with Chinese grammar guided by the communicative principle. In terms of textual level, the author mainly explores the influence of translation strategies of lexical and grammatical cohesion in the text. Finally,it is hoped that this report may provide some references and inspirations for the translations of diplomatic texts in the future.
