A Report On The E-C Translation Of Small States And The New Security Environment

The source text is selected from the book Small States and the New Security Environment published by Springer.Against the backdrop of changes in the world landscape after World War II,this book introduces and analyzes the situation of small countries.At the same time,in the light of the development of small states,the authors of this book explain policies and how small states will face current and potential new security challenges in today’s international environment.The translator has chosen Chapter 3,Chapter 7 and Chapter 8 for her translation practice.The source text is an informative text about International Relations,with a lot of historical and political terms and complex sentences.The translation of long and complex sentences is a challenge for the translator,to which the Skopos Theory is instructive.Under the guidance of Vermeer’s Skopos Theory,adopting such translation techniques as division,combination,addition,omission,conversion and inversion to solve the problems in translation,the translator has completed the translation practice of over 27,000 Chinese words and developed the present translation practice report.This Report consists of five parts: Project Introduction,Process Description,Theory Application,Case Analysis and Conclusion.Through this translation practice,on the one hand,it expands the translator’s range of knowledge and accumulates the translation experience of international relations informative texts.On the other hand,the translator deepens her understanding of functionalist skopos theory and improves her skills to solve translation problems.The accumulation of experience lays a foundation for the translator to carry out further translation practice in the future.
