Translation Of Informative Texts Under The Guidance Of Skopos Theory

The informative text,which aims to deliver messages to readers,is common in life and characterized by its objectivity.This thesis takes the excerpts of The Book of Esports by William Collis as a case study to explore the translation methods of informative texts based on the skopos theory.The book talks about the origin and the development of esports and it contains a lot of game terms and jargons.For the purpose of passing on accurate information to readers and minimizing the difficulty in reading,the thesis analyzes the translation through specific cases with proper translation methods.Based on the three rules(skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule)of the skopos theory,the application of this theory to the translation of informative texts is discussed,using examples from the text translated.This thesis concludes with relevant translation methods suitable for informative text translation,including free translation,literal translation,amplification,omission,changing word order.In addition,two translation methods that can be used as a reference for translating text in game genres are also brought up.
