In recent years, with the rapid development of science and technology, the state is increasingly advocating science education, putting forward new requirements for the professional development of science teachers. This translation practice is based on the contents of the first four chapters of Science Education and Teacher Professional Development. These parts mainly introduce the problems that the science teachers would encounter in their professional development under the background of STEM education. From the linguistic features of informative texts, the original text is characterized by rich technical terms, long and complex sentences, and strong logic. This translation practice report is guided by the skopos theory’s “three principles”,i.e.the skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule. The translator applies comprehensive translation strategies to solve the problems encountered in the process of translation in terms of language, content, and form so as to achieve the goal of “accuracy” and “professionalism” in translation. There are many sentences describing the research results in the source text, which carries clear views, demanding high accuracy and professionalism of the translation.Since the translation purpose determines the translation method, the translator adopts the translation strategies of amplification, omission, and transformation based on the skopos rule.In order to make the translation meaningful in the target language, the translator adopts methods of deviation and restructuring to translate related sentences to achieve coherence and smoothness of sentences through adjustment. For the translation of technical terms,it is required to respect the original author’s thoughts and intentions, the translator adopts literal translation and creative translation from the requirement of fidelity rule. From the perspective of skopos theory, this report demonstrates the feasibility and rationality of skopos theory in guiding the translation of informative text. This translation practice trains the translator’s ability to translate informative texts and improves her understanding of translation theories and science education. It also gives reference and suggestions to the future research and the translation practice.
