A Report On The E-C Translation Of An Excerpt From Step Into The Metaverse

With the innovation of Internet technology,Metaverse will become an essential part of future digital economy.In recent years,the vigorous emergence of Metaverse has empowered many industries and also promoted the transformation of society.Thus,popular science translation texts related to Metaverse are in urgent need of introduction.In this report,the author selects Chapter One from the popular science book Step into the Metaverse as source text,which systematically explains the origin,characteristics,opportunities,challenges and economic impact of the Metaverse.Guided by the Skopos theory,the author analyzes specific translation cases from lexical,syntactical and discourse aspects and summarizes translation methods and techniques.In view of different vocabulary characteristics in popular science texts,the translator adopts the methods of annotation,literal translation and transliteration to translate proper nouns;the translation methods of professional terms can be divided into literal translation and free translation;nominalization structures can be translated by two translation techniques: lexical conversion and semantic extension.At the syntactical level,cases are analyzed from the aspects of voice conversion and word order adjustment to avoid translationese.At the discourse level,cases are mainly analyzed from two perspectives: cohesion and coherence.Under the guidance of Three principles of Skopos Theory,the translator uses related translation methods and techniques flexibly to solve translation questions,hoping to provide references for the translation of similar scientific and technological texts.
