| The report is based on the E-C translation of the first two Chapters of the book—The Science of Nutrition.The book imparts basic nutrition science in detail,analyzes popular dietary concepts such as intestinal flora,vegetarianism,meal replacement,etc.It also answers all common questions about nutrition as well as uncovers pseudoscience.Centered on health knowledge,the selected text is a popular science text,which indicates that translation purpose should be put on high priority.So,the Skopos theory is adopted as the guiding theory.Long sentences with complex structure are one of linguistic features of the text,making translation difficult.Long sentences with complex structures in the text can be classified into three types,namely sentences with subordinate clause,sentences with non-finite verb and sentences with prepositional phrase.In order to express original meaning in fluent Chinese,the translator,under the guidance of skopos rule,adopts reversing translation technique.Guided by coherence rule,the techniques of conversion and splitting are applied.Under the guidance of fidelity rule,the technique of restructuring is adopted.The meaning of the report lies in making contribution to E-C translation of long and complex sentences with Skopos theory as the guiding theory. |
