| In the 21 st century, social science inquiry has been paid more and more attention by people.Because most people believe that modern science is carried out in the laboratory, scientists replace practice with fantasy. However,Marxist philosophy holds that practice produces true knowledge, that is,real knowledge can only be obtained from practice. Therefore, the importance of practice in studying popular science texts becomes apparent. This translation report selected about 15,000 words from Robert E.Kohler’s Inside Science: Stories from the Field in Human and Animal Science published by the University of Chicago Press in 2019.This translation practice aims to tell readers and scientific researchers that practice is the source of cognition, and scientific research is proposed by the needs of practice and carried out around the needs of human practice. Therefore, scientific research and understanding of science in the environment is the basis of research. This report mainly analyzes the English-Chinese translation of popular science texts from the perspective of the Skopos theory.Based on the analysis of the linguistic characteristics of the original text, the report mainly studies the coherence in the translation as the breakthrough points from the syntactic level, such as how to translate the transition relations, causality, and coordinating relation in logical coherence, how to translate attributive clauses, object clauses, and subject clauses in grammatical coherence, and how to translate the word order coherence, and proposes specific solutions to translation problems, such as literal translation, addition translation, subtraction translation, paraphrase, etc.Through this translation practice, the translator hopes to be more clear about the English-Chinese translation skills of coherence in the popular science texts and how to translate popular science texts under skopos theory, and provide certain reference for other translators. |
