Nowadays,the continuous improvement of automated assembly technology has contributed significantly to the development of industry and manufacturing.As the crucial device of automated assembly systems,assembly robots are featured with high precision and flexibility.They can perform assembly tasks efficiently in place of humans.In addition,they can save production costs and reduce labor intensity.Showing a broad outlook,assembly robots have excellent market potential.As the technologies of assembly robots continue to make exciting breakthroughs,great attention should be paid to the Chinese-to-English translation of assembly robots to keep up with their rapid development.It will not only facilitate in-depth exchanges of mechanical techniques between China and foreign countries but also enhance the expertise of foreign technicians in manufacturing and mechanical engineering.Concerning on assembly robots,the source material of this report is from some contents in Chapter 7 of the book Automated Assembly Techniques of Machinery.The selected material was found to be an information text.It is phrased rigorously,and the statements present strong objectivity and logic.This report is guided by the communicative translation theory of Peter Newmark.Combining typical cases,this report analyzes relevant translation methods regarding words,sentences and discourse to make the expressions in the target text close to English for science and technology.As for vocabulary,the source text contains abundant technical words.Plenty of parallel texts were selected for reference.Semantic translation was adopted to address some technical terms containing body metaphors.Besides,word class changes and omissions of redundant words were adopted to eliminate reading barriers for the target readers,which helps ensure translation accuracy and credibility.In terms of sentences,the source text is featured with lots of scattered sentences and non-subject ones.Communicative translation was mainly used at syntactic level.Chinese displays comprehensive thinking,while English presents analytical thinking.Suitable adjustments were made to change word orders,and the combination method was adopted.Thus,the translated text can be close to the expression habits of the target language.Non-subject sentences were translated into passive or imperative ones according to particular contexts,making the target text acceptable to the target readers.Given discourse,reference was applied to achieve coherence.Besides,proper conjunctions were added based on specific situations to manifest clear logic between sentences.Communicative effects can thus be enhanced to bring the target readers a good reading experience.The translation methods presented in this report enrich the application of communication translation theory to a certain extent.This theory turns out to be practical to this translation practice.However,since interdisciplinary expertise needs to be enhanced,the translated text in this practice needs further improvement.
