A Report On The C-E Translation Of Practical Technology Guide To Cloud Computing (Excerpt) Based On Communicative Translation Theory

With the rapid development of domestic information technology,cloud computing has been widely used in various industries in China,which is of great significance to social and economic development.It is changing the way all digital services are delivered and consumed.It is also changing the way calculations occur,accelerating the digitization of all industries.The translator chooses the fourth chapter of Practical Technology Guide to Cloud Computing as the Chinese-English translation task,and employs Newmark’s communicative translation theory to study the problems in the translation practice.The source text belongs to the science and technology text and mainly to convey the information.In the process of translation,the translator encounters many difficulties:in terms of words,the abbreviations of professional terms with different meanings and the semantic vague words are the main problems in translation process;In terms of syntax,there are many lengthy modifier sentences and non-subject sentences in the source text;In terms of text,the primary problems are many repeated words or contents and few connective words between the sentences.The translator employs Newmark’s communicative translation theory to solve the problems in the translation process,and to analyze them at the lexical,syntactic,and textual levels.At the lexical level,the translator uses amplification and omission to clarify the meaning of the words.At the syntactic level,the revision of word order and addition of the non-subject sentences are mainly used to ensure the sentences more explicit.At the textual level,substitution,ellipsis,and addition are widely used to increase the fluency of the discourse logic.Thus,the translation is more concise and fluent.Through translation practice,the translator finds that communicative translation theory can be used to solve the problems in the cloud computing translation texts,as well as in the science and technology texts.Therefore,the communicative translation theory has a significant guiding and application value in the science and technology texts translation.The translator gains useful translation experience from the report,and also hopes to provide experience and help for the translation of this type of text.
