The source text of this translation project is selected from the fourteenth chapter and the sixteenth chapter of Introduction to Communications Technologies:A Guide for Non-Engineers(3~rdd ed.).This text is informative,which concisely presents a comprehensive introduction of some expertise and basic principles in the ICT field.Meanwhile,the text also has some common features of English for science and technology,such as the use of terms,non-finite verbs and nominalizations.This translation project analyzes the stylistic features of the text.Under the guidance of Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory and semantic translation theory,the report tries to find out some suitable translation methods for those features by using conversion,inversion,division and so on.The report consists of five chapters.The first chapter briefly introduces this translation project,including background,significance and structure of the report.Then Chapter two analyzes the source text from authors,content and stylistic features.The third chapter briefly introduces the definition and application of Newnark’s translation theory.The fourth chapter discusses some feasible translation methods under the guidance of communicative translation and semantic translation.The fifth chapter is the summary of this translation project.
